Lots of good info.Got a problem with an American Standard heat pump I just had installed:When I put the unit on Cool using the Comfort Control touch screen it puts out hot air, never makes cold.Had the installer out to fix once. He said the unit was overcharged. He installed it so he must have overcharged it!
Anyway he left and all seemed ok.A few days later I turn the unit on Cool and it does the same thing: makes heat not cold.As far as I can tell the emergency heat is not on. If you grab the freon line (big one) its really really hot.Any ideas what could cause this? Dirt in a valve causing the unit to stick in heat mode? The programmable comfort control not set up correctly?
A wire not connected correctly? They didn't install a sight glass so I cant see if there is a freon problem. Didn't install a dryer either if that matters.I would like to hear a second opinion so I can tell if my installer (a listed AS Customer Care dealer) is blowing smoke.Thanks!JV. I just had the same unit with the Trane name installed. The wiring is somewhat complex, since it has a two stage compressor. The first fellow got two wires crossed.
The troubleshooter came out and traced all of the thermostat wires and found the error. It is also important to use a thermostat that is compatible with your system's two stage compressor. You should post the make and model of thermostat that is being used. The condenser comes from the factory with the correct refrigerant charge for a 15 foot line set.
You have to work at it to get it way far off.Bill. When asked they tech couldn't tell me how many stages the unit was. Can anyone tell me is it a 2heat/1cool heat pump or a 3 heat/2cool heat pump with auxillary heat.I was reviewing the System Type Selection on the thermostat.
Its set to 2heat/1cool heat pump.If the American Heritage 16 is the same as the Trane XL16i, and I think that it is, then your setup is 3 heat, and 2 cool. Two stages of heat are from the heat pump and one stage from the heat strips in the air handler for emergency and supplemental heat.
The thermostat would need to have all of this covered and it would have to be wired accordingly. Your condenser and air handler came with wiring diagrams and instructions.Your installer does not seem to be familiar with your equipment.
You would be better off to get senior mangment at the contractor to send someone competent to troulbleshoot your system.Bill. Quick Navigation. Site Areas. Forums.
